The Service of Remembrance for Mr. Lewis Benton Weikel, who passed away December 28, 2019, will be held Thursday, January 2, 2020, at 12:00 noon at downing Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery.
Mr. Weikel was born November 16, 1931 to Willie and Bessie (Rogers) Weikel in Princeton, West Virginia. He was a US Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. After discharge, he worked as an electronics technician, building submarines. In 1986, He retired to Spring Hill, Florida. He enjoyed watching Westerns, and loved country music. He spent his time playing card games and doing crossword puzzles, and loved to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Deborah. Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Dorothy; Sons Brian (Deborah) Weikel, of Connecticut, Jeff Weikel of Virginia; Daughters Darlene (Donnie) Diamond of Virginia, and Deborah (Michael) Singer of Hudson, Florida. He was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to HPH Hospice.
