We never imagined we would meet an angel in our lifetime, let alone have the honor of calling one our daughter. But Alysia was just that—a true angel among us. From her very first days, she showed a gentle kindness and a warmth that felt beyond this world. She had a way of bringing light to everyone she met, and her heart was a gift to all of us who knew her.
One of my earliest memories of Alysia was when she was still growing inside me. I remember one day when I was overcome with emotion, and somehow, she seemed to understand. She nestled closer, as if to comfort me before she had even arrived. Her father's earliest memory of how sweet she was, was when he was having a difficult day with his mom, and Alysia went over to him and hugged him. She was only three years old, and yet she had the compassion of someone much older. That was Alysia—always giving, always caring, even before she had taken her first breath. As she grew, her smile became a source of joy and peace for all who saw it. Wherever we went, people were drawn to her. She had this unexplainable way of connecting with others, and even strangers couldn’t resist her presence.
By the time she was 14, Alysia was already an old soul with a young spirit, eager to share her perspective through writing. She started working on her book, pouring her heart and imagination onto the page. Her words were filled with depth, and her empathy was profound. Never did she harbor judgment; her kindness was boundless. When we or others would tell her how special she was, she would smile but never fully believe it. To her, she was simply being herself.
When Alysia’s illness began last year, it altered the course of her life in unimaginable ways. She lost her ability to move, to speak, and to communicate in the ways she once had. Yet, her spirit remained unshaken. Her thoughts turned to those around her—the nurses, the doctors, her family. She expressed her gratitude and wanted to thank everyone who helped her. Through all of her struggles, she bore her challenges with a grace that was truly remarkable.
What struck us most during her illness was how little she thought of herself. Even in her most difficult moments, she was worried about us, her family, her friends, and her dreams. She talked about opening a shelter one day, caring for the environment, and making a difference. It was always others she held in her heart, never herself. Alysia’s love and selflessness never wavered, and that love reached everyone she encountered.
To know Alysia was to love her, and those who did will carry her memory forever. Her spirit was one that brought hope and kindness, and even now, we know she continues to watch over us. We feel her love, her compassion, her light. This world is a better place because of her, and though her time here was brief, her impact will last.
Alysia, you will always be loved, always remembered. You were an angel among us, a living testament to what is good and pure in this world. Rest now, my sweet angel. We are so grateful for the gift of having had you in our lives.
