Barbara Leach Obituary

Barbara Ann Beck “Barb” Leach was born on May 19, 1944, in Rome, NY, where she worked in her family owned and operated restaurant, Beck’s Grove.
She was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Kathryn Beck, and her brother, Charles Beck.  She is survived by her son, David DeLuca & wife, Alejandra, four grandchildren,  David Jr., Angelica & wife, Ciara, Benjamin and Nora and a great granddaughter, Cora.
Barbara was a Civil Servant employee at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, NY, for 25 years.  Her job description was Electronics Technician.  She designed the plans for laying of communication cables that would be installed in Air Force Bases either underground (in manholes) or on top of the ground.  She engineered what path the cables would take so the installers could do their jobs.  Barbara also took on an additional annual event on the Base for the Special Olympics where she realized that she could use this event as a deeper level of commitment to the community.
Barbara was a gal of many trades, being a Real Estate Agent and Notary in Oneida NY.  She was also a licensed New York Cosmetologist.
Since 1995, Barbara was very active in many organizations at High Point Community.  High Point Lions Club was her main focus where she held many Board positions including President for two years and was very instrumental in fund raising and planning events.
Barb was an avid golfer and member of the High Point Golf Club.  She golfed with the “Sunday Schoolers” and the “Belles and Beaus.”
She was a long-term member of the American Legion Post 186 Auxiliary.  Barb was a mentor for the Florida State Girls Auxiliary taking them to State from 2010 to 2018.
Some of Barb’s pastime activities were playing any kind of game, especially Poker, Texas Hold ‘em and a card game called Hand, Foot, and Elbow. She also loved to go “thrift shopping” anytime, anywhere and with anyone. She was the mentor and facilitator for the High Point Mah Jongg Club.  Barb loved to travel, taking many trips across America with a friend, taking cruises, and travelling through Europe extensively.

If ever anyone needed a helping hand, Barbara was there with a meal, a ride, or planning an event; she was a compassionate soul!
