Carole Annette Mason, aged 81, passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on May 28, 2026 in Spring Hill, Florida.
Born on June 29, 1944 in St. Petersburg, Florida, Carole often told stories of her 4 mothers; birth mother Lorene Savell, adoptive mother Edith (Charles) Mason, foster mother Margaret (John) Bowen, and step-mother Katherine.
Carole attended the University of South Carolina, where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration (1967), and a Masters of Education (1977). She taught at the School for the Blind as well as Richland County Schools in Columbia, South Carolina, before settling at Springstead High School, in Spring Hill, FL, where she taught from 1979 until her retirement in 2013.
On December 21, 1990, she married James Bush, in New Port Richey, Florida. Though they had no children, Carole will be remembered for her caring and nurturing spirit that she cast upon the lives of her former students. Carole is preceded in death by her four mothers; brothers Dick and Jay Garfinkel; survived by her husband, James Bush, brother Dave (Mary) Garfinkel and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 1 PM, Downing Funeral Home, Spring Hill, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Toys for Tots.
