Delbert Conkling Obituary

Delbert L. Conkling, 90, of Spring Hill,  FL passed away in his home on Sunday, September 22, 2024 with family by his side.  Del was born on October 25, 1933 in Belvidere,  IL, the son of Glen and Dorothy (Johnson) Conkling of Garden Prairie, IL.  He graduated from Belvidere High School, where he excelled on the Varsity baseball team.  Del married Patricia James Conkling on June 14, 1952, and together they had 4 children.   Del took pleasure in teaching them things from riding a bike to water skiing and much more.  He took great pride in his family’s accomplishments.   Additionally,  he cultivated many friendships throughout his lifetime.

Del was a member of both The Shriners and Mason organizations.   He was awarded a 1st place trophy for the Obstacle Course for Shriner’s Motorcycle Club in 1973.  His hobbies included camping and traveling throughout the United States, boating, billiards and golfing.

After retiring, he and his wife moved to Spring Hill,  FL, where they have resided the past 29 years.

Del is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Conkling; children Dianne Conkling of Citrus Springs,  FL, James (Tammy) Conkling of Rockton, IL, Jerry (Katherine) Conkling of Spring Hill,  FL, and Roger (Patricia) Conkling of Spring Hill, FL; also 5 grandchildren,  8 great grandchildren,  and 1 great great grandchild.

A private memorial service for family will be held at Downing Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Spring Hill,  FL on October 1, 2024.  Donations are preferred to Shriner’s Hospital for Children in lieu of flowers.
