Dennis Scott Obituary

Dennis Lee Scott, 84, of Brooksville, Florida, passed away on April 9, 2026, due to complications from Parkinson's Disease. Born on May 19, 1941, in Bicknell, Indiana, Dennis lived a full life marked by generosity, devotion to family, and a deep love of sports.

Dennis married the love of his life, Linda Wools, on May 28, 1960, and the two shared an extraordinary 65 years together. He graduated from Franklin College with a bachelor's degree in education, launching a career dedicated to shaping young lives. Dennis coached basketball for high school boys and elementary school girls, pouring his energy and heart into every season and every player who came through his program.

Stubborn as he was generous, Dennis had a way of quietly looking out for people. If a student couldn't afford tickets to a school event, Dennis made sure they got in. He chose teenagers from the Angel Tree, making sure they weren't forgotten during the holidays. He gave freely and without fanfare, because that's simply who he was.

Away from the gym and the classroom, Dennis was a devoted sports fan who loved football, basketball, baseball and racing. He had a passion for horse racing and dog racing, and he promoted sprint and stock car racing over the years. If there was action on a track or a field, Dennis wanted to be part of it.

Dennis was baptized in Bicknell, and his faith, though quietly held, was a meaningful part of his life. May he now find the peace and rest he so richly deserves.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Scott and Margie Dant Scott. Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Scott; his daughters, Karen Smith and Kelly Parker; his son, Michael Scott; and his sister, Beverly Elgan. He had six grandchildren: Cassandra, Emily, Denise, Ethan, Karson, and Allison. He had one great granddaughter, Penelope, who was born in February.

A funeral service will be held at Oakland Presbyterian Church, 218 E. Oakland Ave., Oakland, FL 34760, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall on April 18, 2026. His cremated remains will be placed in Brooksville Cemetery at a later date, in a plot resting between two large oak trees. In time, Linda will be laid to rest at his side. Downing Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Springhill, Florida cared for Dennis on his final day.

If Dennis could attend his own funeral, he would be standing there with a wooden duck in his hand, making a joke. May he rest in the peace and grace he so freely gave to others.
