In Loving Memory of Edward Henry Gerber
Memories Of Eddie
What can I tell you about the roaring Lion that inside was nothing but a cuddly soft teddy bear. He would cry at sad movies and not look my way so I wouldn’t see he was crying.
For my birthday he named a star after me and cried when he saw how touched I was.
I loved the way he would beat on both sides of his recliner as though it was a drum set. He could make music on that recline, but when it came to dancing, he had no rhythm. Elaine from Seinfeld had nothing on him. He was stiff as a board and his right arm would stick out and rotate. His feet just didn’t work together but when it came to slow dancing, he couldn’t be beat. When he held me close, I knew I was in the arms of a smooth and gentle lover.
I always called him my hero. I would ask him anything and he would have the answer. He could fix just about anything. I remember the time while puttering around outside, he cut open his leg pretty badly. He calmly came in and took a tube of super glue and glued the wound together. It sent shiver up my spine.
His favorite name for me was “Shit Head” and I loved it. The last time he called me that was soon after he died. The nurse came into his hospital room and asked that I call the funeral home. I called while still at Ed’s side and set the appointment to go to the funeral home at 9 the next morning and they made the arrangement to pick up his body. We had already paid for both our funerals years before but being the accountant that I am, (and with Eddie still on his death bed) I asked they pull the paperwork and see what services were covered under the contract. Low and hehold they had no record of our contract. At that point I looked at Eddie and realized I had called the wrong funeral parlor. I could swear I heard him say, “You SHIT HEAD you almost screwed up my burial”. The worse part was that I might have had to pay for one funeral 2 times.
I will always love and miss you, my hero, my lover, my man. I will claw my way out of hell and rise on stolen Angel winds to find you, and I WILL find you and be with you for all eternity.
Love Bern
