Frederick Ray Spraggs

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Frederick Ray Spraggs, 86, at his home with his loving wife, Lynne, of 68 years and his beloved daughter and caregiver, Gina S. Mitchell, whom were both by his side.

He was born in Arlington, KY on September 25, 1938, to Roxie Goodgion Spraggs and Woodrow Wilson Spraggs and was preceded in death by his parents and his loving sister, Donna Spraggs Beck.

He also leaves to cherish his memory:  His son, Frederick Ray Spraggs II and wife, Lori, three grandchildren-Rebecca Parker-Bell (Seth), Mariah Dembroski (Conner), and Parker Lee Mitchell and one great-granddaughter, Freya Charlene Dembroski, who made his face light up just at the mention of her name.

Fred’s work career spanned several states starting in FL, PA and ending in Lexington, KY where he retired from Kentucky Utilities in 1993 from the position of Marketing Manager.    Many of his co-workers throughout his work career and his Lexington Church family have remained the best of friends as they aged together keeping in touch while living all across the country.

He loved spending time at his lake house at Herrington Lake near Danville, KY spending most weekends in the summer hosting and grilling for family and friends who came to enjoy time with the Spraggs’ family.  We must not forget to mention all the folks who he taught to water-ski!!

He and Lynne moved to FL, as was his lifetime wish, to live out their retirement years where he enjoyed making new friends, playing bridge and golfing and all the other amenities living in FL can bring-mainly the year-round beautiful weather.

He loved his Lord and Savior as evidenced by his mealtime prayers and his service to his church, Northcliffe Church in Spring Hill, FL where he served on the Finance Committee among other positions.  One of his goals was to participate in the church’s expansion plans to build a Family Life Center and create a plan for paying off the debt in a timely manner.  This is why, in lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Northcliffe Church (for  the Building Fund), 10515 Northcliffe Blvd., Spring Hill, FL 34608 to meet the goal Fred was instrumental in starting and was so near and dear to his heart.

Fred loved life! He loved his family and friends!  His unexpected dry wit kept all of us laughing at his friendly antics.  He was welcomed into heaven by so many friends and family, and we know he is still making them laugh!

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Northcliffe Church in the Family Life Center on Saturday, May 31st at 11:00 a.m. with lunch to follow at noon.  Family and friends are all invited to join his family in celebrating his wonderful life.  His love was boundless.  His heart was genuine, and he most certainly will be missed on this earth.  But his family can take solace in knowing that he is safe in the arms of his Heavenly Father at this time.
