With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of George O’Hara, age 76, who died Monday, September 4, 2023 in Spring Hill, FL. George was born February 5, 1947, in Elmont, New York to the late Matthew and Ann O’Hara. At the age of 19, George proudly enlisted to serve his country in the United States Army. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Specialist 5. As part of this service, he served in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Marksman (Rifle), and 4 Purple Hearts.
Those left to cherish George’s memory are the love of his life, his wife of 55 years, Carol Ann O’Hara of Brooksville, FL, four children, Douglas O’Hara and his wife Marla, KeriAnn O’Hara, Erin Mohler and her husband, Mark, and Nicole O’Hara, four grandchildren, Carol (29), and her significant other, Chance, Garrett (26), and his wife, Brooke, Dawson (26) and Riley (8) and four great-grandchildren, Carson (7), Cace (3), Cash (2) and Brynlee (2).
Loved ones will remember that the simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to George. He loved fishing and after his military service, spent his formidable years as a commercial fisherman. This taught George how to persevere, have a positive mindset, and take things one day at a time. These characteristics helped him throughout his life.
A service honoring the life of George O’Hara will be held at Friday September 8th 10 a.m. at the Downing Funeral Home, located at 7254 Highpoint Blvd, FL. We request all of George’s loved ones join us in this celebration of life. He lived a full, long life and will be greatly missed.
