Horst Goeller Obituary

Horst Goeller, age 91, of Brooksville, Florida, passed away on February 15, 2025. He was born on December 26, 1933, in Nuremberg, Germany.
Horst lived a full and vibrant life, dedicated to his family and pursuing his passions. In 1957, he immigrated to Canada, bringing with him his beloved wife, Anneliese, and their newborn son, Robert.  He began his career as a Tool & Die Maker at International Harvester, where he was joined shortly after by his brother, Rudy (Nick), his wife, Elsie, and their family.  Over the years, Horst and Annaliese welcomed four more children: Harry, MaryAnne, Ronald, and Karen.  The close-knit families, of our "adopted families" from dads time at International Harvester, created a strong bond, with many cherished memories of summer vacations together.
An avid outdoorsman, Horst loved fishing in the wilds of Ontario, hunting deer and moose, and even scuba diving. He instilled a love of the outdoors in his children, teaching them to swim (sometimes by the "sink or swim" method!).  A dedicated provider, he ensured his family never lacked for anything.
In 1968, Horst moved his family to Detroit Michigan, to work at Ford Co., and many of his extended family members followed, continuing their close ties.  Florida became a favorite vacation destination, sparking a new passion for warm weather.  Horst enjoyed snowmobiling in Michigan but eventually embraced the sun, embarking on numerous cross-country trips with friends in his travel trailer.
As his children married and started families of their own, Horst and Annaliese found more time to indulge in their love of cruising.  They enjoyed over 30 cruises together, with Horst often mistaken for the captain in his distinguished white suit.
Looking forward to retirement, Horst purchased 12 acres in central Michigan and built a retirement home. However, the lure of sunny Florida proved too strong, and he and Annaliese became snowbirds, splitting their time between Michigan summers and Florida winters.  Eventually, they settled permanently in Brooksville, Florida, where they were close to their daughters, MaryAnne and Karen, and their families.
Horst was known for his elaborate Christmas displays and his welcoming spirit.  His garage was always open on weekends, where friends, neighbors, and family gathered for drinks and snacks.  He was enjoying one of these gatherings shortly before his illness.
Horst will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 69 years, Annaliese; his children, Robert (Melanie), Harry (Ame), MaryAnne (Todd Matheson), Ronald, and Karen (Scott Rushlow); his grandchildren, Christy, Jessica, and Kyra; his great-grandchildren, Victoria, Patrick, and Christian; and his great-great-grandchild, Duane.
A celebration of Horst's life will be held at his home on March 8th.
