Horst Friedrich (Fred) Strotjohann died Monday, May 30, 2022, at the age of 83 in Weeki Wachee, Florida.

Fred was born on December 20, 1938, in Gutersloh, Westphalia Germany.

As a young child, he experienced firsthand the effects of World War II. As his country recovered, he excelled in many areas. He earned a degree in business and became skilled in the trade of tool and die. In 1957, at the age of 19, he and his mother journeyed to the United States in search of the American Dream. In 1958, Fred enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served his new country for six years. His pursuit of excellence prepared him for his future and a 30-year career with AT & T, from where he retired from a management position at the age of 55.

Fred enjoyed retired life. He had a workshop where he spent many hours designing things for the house, friends and loved ones. No project was ever too big or too small for him. Careful thought, planning and preparation went into every project he took on. Woodworking proved to be his passion and he thrived the most when creating new masterpieces.

Fred is survived by his wife Esther (Faye) Strotjohann, his daughter Christine (Mark) Alexander and his stepchildren Lester (Tina) Lammonds, Jr. and Lisa LaBelle. Grandchildren: Sydney (Anthony) Krause, Alyssa Alexander, Joshua, Matthew, Nicholas, Brandon and Jessica Lammonds, Tristan (Hannah) LaBelle, Miranda (Addison) Boyer and Kaitlyn LaBelle. Great Grandchildren: Greysen, Ellie and Kenneth Krause and Julia Boyer.

He is preceded in death by his mother Josefa Strotjohann, wife Shirley Strotjohann and his son Horst F. Strotjohann, Jr.

There will be a memorial service to honor Fred on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Downing Funeral Home in Spring Hill, Florida.
