Janice L. (Johnson) Jarvi 79, passed away November 16, 2024, in Brooksville, Florida.
Janice (Jan) was born August 8, 1945, in Marquette, Michigan to George and Margaret Shorkey. She attended schools in Marquette graduating from Bishop Baraga High School in 1963. On June 19, 1965, she married Donald T. Johnson (Don also known as Butch) in Marquette, Michigan. Together they have three children- Donald, Randal, and Kim- that they raised in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. The couple later moved to Florida to live and the eventually retire. Don & Jan enjoyed 47 years of marriage until his passing on August 22, 2012. After Don’s passing, Jan returned to Marquette to be with her mother and sisters. It was there she reconnected with Joel N. Jarvi, a former high school classmate, and they were married on December 5, 2015. The couple returned to Florida to reside. Joel passed away May 6, 2024.
Throughout her life, Jan held many different jobs and enjoyed several hobbies. Her most memorable hobbies include crocheting, going on cruises with those she loved, and helping others anyway she could. She was involved in many different clubs and organizations such as the Pok-A-Snoz Snowmobile Club of Stevens Point, Wisconsin where she made lifelong friends. While living in Florida she enjoyed events at the Hernando Beach Yacht Club with Don, daily breakfast at Bigun’s BBQ, as well as social gatherings at the American Legion Post 186 with her husband Joel and his sister Linda.
Survivors include two sons, Donald (Kim) Johnson of Buffalo, Minnesota and Randal (Julie) Johnson of Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Jan is also survived by her daughter Kim (Terry) Theune of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin and a stepdaughter Kathy (Tom) Heiskanen of Negaunee, Michigan. Other survivors include two sisters, Cynthia (Mike) Cooke of Marquette, Michigan and Linda Shorkey (Frank Babicz) of Weeki Wachee, Florida and a sister-in-law Alayna Hooper of Pueblo, Colorado. Jan is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren as well as several brothers and sisters in law, nieces, and nephews.
Preceding her death were her parents, George and Margaret Shorkey, her husbands, Donald Johnson and Joel Jarvi, and her sister Susan Hooper.
There will be a celebration of life luncheon on December 3, 2024, from 1-3 pm at the American Legion Post 186 in Brooksville, Florida. An additional celebration of life will be planned at a later date in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
