On May 24, 2022, Kenneth R. Strey of Hudson, FL passed away peacefully after a decade’s long battle with cancer. He was 82 years old.
Ken is survived by his wife of 58 years Darla (Stephens) Strey; three children Keith & spouse Kris of Altoona, WI, Conni & spouse Frank Graziano of Spring Hill, FL, Carey & spouse Wendy of Sebring, FL; sister Karen & spouse DuWayne Tippelt of Marshfield, WI; five grandchildren and one great grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Sr. & Violet and brother Ernest Strey Jr all of Spencer, WI.
Ken was born August 3, 1939 in Granton, WI. After high school, he proudly went on to serve in the US Navy from July 1958 to 1962. He completed active duty service as DC2 (E5), including support for the Cuban Bay blockade while stationed aboard the USS Stickell DD 888. After his Navy service, he returned to central WI where he met and married the love of his life Darla, where they raised three children. While residing in the village of Spencer, WI, he had a career in manufactured housing and recreational vehicle construction. He joined the village of spencer volunteer Fire & Ambulance Service as a firefighter/paramedic and was recognized for 20 years of service to the department in 1984. Later that year, the family moved to the Spring Hill, FL area where he worked in home construction until retiring from Lennar homes in 2006. After his retirement, he and Darla spent time enjoying their summers in WI camping and boating, winters golfing in their FL home community, trips to Biloxi, MS; and spending more time with friends and family.
Time with his wife Darla, family and close friends were his top priorities and interests throughout his life. In addition to that, he enjoyed golfing, camping, NASCAR, following various WI and FL professional and college sports teams.
Funeral arrangements are through Downing Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Spring Hill, FL. His funeral service is scheduled to be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Spring Hill, FL on Friday June 10th at 11:00 AM. The burial procession to Florida National Cemetery in /Bushnell, FL will immediately follow the Church Service with a Military Ceremony scheduled to start at 1:30 pm.
