It is with heavy hearts and our deep love that we announce the transition of Lena Mae McKinnon to her eternal home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Lena, a beloved mother, grand & great grandmother, sister, aunt, niece and dear friend, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025 in Springhill, Florida, leaving for all that loved her a legacy of strength, integrity, dedication, hard work, and joy.
On March 31, 1939, in Campbell County, VA Lena Carr was born to the Late Hiram and Arie Carr. She is predeceased by her brother Jack Carr. Eventually, Lena's parents migrated to Amityville, NY and Lena began her education obtaining her high school diploma. At a young age she married Gordon Shelbourne Faulk and moved to Philadelphia where she spent many years of her adult life.
Upon moving to Philadelphia, Lena became a Payroll Employee of Septa, a bus and train company based in Philadelphia and surrounding counties. She was an outstanding employee obtaining many honors for her dedicated hard work and years of service. On April 1, 1994 at the age of 55 with 30 years in, she retired and began living life to the fullest. She moved to Lancaster, PA and became a foster parent to young children. This was rewarding to her. Finally, over 20 years ago, she moved to Florida where she lived in many parts of the state. She became instantly involved in her church, meeting many friends along the way. Lena taught Bible Study and was a part of the Red Hat Society Club as well. She volunteered at the Mid County Community Center where she did such a fine job that she was offered the position of Manager. She worked in many capacities, serving homeless people, helping displaced children, and helping feeding the elderly. She moved to Vitality where she became the ambassador of the facility and hosted card games, pokeno, and the organization of many other programs, In addition, she was so helpful that she became the tour guide person for the new clients.
Traveling was one of her hobbies. She traveled all over the United States from California to Niagara Falls. She traveled by Ships, Airplanes, or car. Her children, nieces, and nephews, and her sister was on many of the trips. She loved showing her children what life was like in other parts of the country. Lena would also do trips with friends and meet new friends along the way. Some of these people became lifelong friends. Lena loved a new car as well. She had many along the way--Maverick, Monte Carlo, Riviera, Regal, Dynasty, Murano, and her favorite was the latest a Red 4 Door Cadillac SRX.
Lena was surrounded by many family members in the state of Florida but her immediate family lived abroad. However, in her final years, she was enjoying seeing her family on special occasions and she loved talking to her grandchildren and great grandchildren on the phone. She often communicated and talked to her bonus daughter Niecy as well.
Although we did not want to see her go, God in his infinite wisdom came and picked her from the garden. She is survived by her 2 sons, Gordon Shelby Faulk (predeceased), (Grace), Derek Faulk,(Lynne), Bonus daughter, Niecy, grandchildren, Monique, Derek (DJ), Corey, (Alaina), Brianna, & Brittany, great grandchildren, Kairi, MyKella, Chase, Cali, Kameron, Yasyn, Kori, Maximillan, Aiden, great great grandchildren, Kylie, Kenzo, Celine all of Philadelphia, PA, Sister, Virginia ( Clarence-predeceased), aunt, Ruby, nieces, Pamela, (Micah), Jackie, (Terry), 2 Nephews, Gregory, (Yvette), Gary, a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, and many many friends. I would also like to extend a special thanks for her bonus family Gary, Danette, Sean, and Danielle McBride who was a devoted and loving family in her life. Nothing, was too much for them to do for her. Also, her bonus daughter Niecy, she was in her life for many years and made many sacrifices along the way to come and see about her mother. Special shoutout to Pamela, a shining example of what a niece could be. Always there for her in every way and we thank you.
Lena has built a strong legacy of "how to do it" and God is pleased. Well done, my good and faithful servant.
The family would like to thank each and every one of you for your kind messages and thoughts as we navigate through this difficult journey.
Any donations and/or desire to contact the family would be through Derek Faulk.
