Louis Serra Obituary

Louis Serra, a member of the VFW and longtime resident of Spring Hill, FL, passed surrounded by his family on May 10th, 2023, at the age of 82.

Louis (Lou) is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gerri Serra (née Lackenbauer); his children, Dawn Quirino (née Serra) (Spouse: George Quirino) and Tracey Manfre (née Serra) (Spouse: Liam Manfre); his sisters, Rosemary Cherry (née Serra) and Lillian Corwin (née Serra); his grandchildren, Christopher Manfre (Spouse: Cali Manfre), Anthony Manfre, and Alexandra Serra (Fiancé: Matthew Evans); his great-grandchild, Liam Manfre; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother, Catherine Serra (née Lamonica); his father Joseph Serra; and his brother, Vito Serra.

Lou was born in Brooklyn, NY, on June 26, 1940, to Catherine and Joseph Serra. He served in the US Army as a Diesel Mechanic and was stationed in Germany. After moving to Florida in 1989 he worked at Consumer Car Care (N/K/A Steve’s Sun Runner) and Big John’s Auto as an automotive mechanic for years before retiring and working at the local VFW on Edward R. Noll Drive. Lou was an avid bowler at Spring Hill Lanes for many years and took the time to share that love with his grandchildren. He valued hard work and dedication in one’s direction in life and did much to offer support and encouragement. Over the years he had many animals in his family that he loved and cared for, including a white shorthair cat – Tiki – that guarded and loved him through to the end. He spent his free time tending to his many succulents and creating trinkets for his friends and family. His favorite game to play in his youth was chess, his favorite baseball team was the Tampa Bay Rays, and his favorite football team the San Francisco 49ers. A few famous and comical family quotes: “Don’t put me on the spot!”; “What, are you writing a book? Leave that chapter out.”; “Hey! What’r you doin’?”; and, “Don’t touch the remote!” His was the gruff humor we needed.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled to be held at the VFW on Edward R. Noll Drive on May 31st between the hours of 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm, where he will receive an Honor Guard commemoration.

In lieu of flowers we would appreciate it if you could help by donating to: Chaplains Memorial Fund for War Dogs & their Handlers.
