Marion Thomson, 82, of Weeki Wachee, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on April 9, 2026.
Born in Queens, NY, Marion spent the majority of her life in Florida, where she made her home.
Marion wore many hats throughout her life: serial business owner, prodigious volunteer, and devoted family woman. She met the love of her life in 1961, when her daughter Gloria was born. From that moment, she embraced motherhood with open arms. She was later elevated to the cherished role of grandma before being promoted to great-grandma, or, as she was affectionately known, GG.
A woman with an endless capacity for love, Marion leaves behind a family who will miss her dearly: her daughter, Gloria and husband, Jerry; grandsons James and Justin and their wives Anna and Amy; her only granddaughter, Windy and husband, Griff; great-grandchildren Camryn, Jerry, Callie, and Sabella; bonus “daughter,” Tanner; brothers Artie and Eddie; nephews Michael and Tyler; and not-quite-but-more-or-less bonus grandchildren Shang, Mariesol, Eric, Jared, Austin, and Excel, along with countless other children she grandmothered over the years. And her dog Buster, a real jerk of a dog, but he will probably miss her the most since she was the only person he likes.
Marion was a loving and humble woman who didn’t expect much, unless you were a server bringing her a salad, in which case she also expected bread. She was fearless and adventurous, always willing to try something new. She loved kayaking, traveling, reading, volunteering, and, most of all, spending time with those she considered family. She never met a stranger, and her home and table were always open to everyone.
Over her long and full life, Marion mastered many things. She owned restaurants, call centers, and health agencies; there was truly nothing she couldn’t do. Except voice-to-text a coherent message. "Who she would I don't even have to ask." Your guess is as good as ours.
Her family will miss her love, her laughter, her sparkle, and her way of filling every day with joy. But mostly, they’ll miss her manicotti. Like any good Italian, GG’s recipe existed only in her head, and it’s a loss the family will feel deeply.
A celebration of Marion’s life will be held at Gloria and Jerry’s home on what would have been her 83rd birthday, May 9, 2026, from 2 - 4 p.m. All friends and family are welcome, just be sure to stop at two martinis (or at least say you did) in her honor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Fostering Hope Florida.
