Michael Thomas Durr passed away in his home in Spring Hill, Florida on June 20, 2025. He was born on December 9, 1950 in Covington, Kentucky. He is survived by his five younger brothers- Steve, Charles, David, Kenneth, Tommy and his children- Jennifer Ann Suntay and Justen and his wife, Ghislaine (Gigi), of 48 years.
Michael and his wife were stationed at US Naval bases in Philippines and Spain. He served for 21 years and proudly achieved the rank of Senior Chief (E-8) in the US Navy after serving on the USS Midway, fighting in Vietnam and Desert Storm. He was also a ‘plank owner’ on the USS Mobile Bay (CG-53).
He also enjoyed scuba diving in the Philippines, deep sea fishing in Florida and Panama, and drag racing on the ¼ mile with his dragster called, ‘Too Fun Racing’. He used his military skills and knowledge when he was the head of nuclear security at the Crystal River Nuclear Power Plant in Crystal River, Florida. He was a gifted storyteller both in writing and in conversation. His smile, quick wit, and love for his family and nation will always be his hallmark. Fair winds and following seas, shipmate Michael. We have the watch.
