Nancy A. Yates (née Korns), 94, of Spring Hill, Florida, went to be with the Lord on June 1, 2025. She leaves behind her husband of seventy years, Joseph, 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Nancy was born to Clark E. and Beatrice E. Anderson Korns in Portsmouth, Ohio on Valentine’s Day in 1931. At the age of nine, she and her family moved to the Northwest Indiana area and Nancy remained in the area until she and her husband retired to Florida. She was a graduate of Hammond High School and Indiana University Bloomington. Nancy was ahead of her time and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting at IU which was very unusual for a woman at the time. She was employed over her career at several companies in the northwest Indiana area, retiring from Panax Publishing as a plant controller in 1989. She also found time to be a Girl Scout leader, a 25-year volunteer at Oak Hill hospital and was a member of the Red Hats and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Nancy was a devout Catholic and a parishioner at St. Frances Cabrini in Spring Hill.
Nancy enjoyed cooking and baking, traveling, hiking and water exercise, playing cards (especially bridge and pinochle), and antiquing. She amassed a large collection of early American pattern glass, the bulk of which will be donated to a museum.
Nancy leaves behind her husband of 70 years, Joseph Yates of Spring Hill, and her four children JoAnn Murphy (Paul) of Longboat Key, FL, Judy Frampton (Dean) of Crown Point, IN, Mary deJonge of LaGrange, IL, and Michael J. Yates (Marisa) of Western Springs, IL, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Clark E. “Jerry” Korns, Jr. and a son-in-law, William R. deJonge.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Frances Cabrini Church on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 11 am followed by interment at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in memory of Nancy Yates to the general fund at Notre Dame Catholic School, 1095 Commercial Way, Spring Hill, FL 34606.
