Norman Edgar Ellis, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4th, in Spring Hill, FL. Norman was born in Louisville, KY to his late parents William & Edna Ellis.
Norm was a member of the Spring Hill Moose Lodge and the F.O.E. in Ormond Beach. He held various jobs throughout his life from truck driver to a used car salesman to small business owner. Norm was a talented singer songwriter; his true passion in life was entertaining, singing & dancing. He wrote hundreds of songs over the years, and he never gave up on his dream of hitting it big so he could take better care of his family. Norm was a huge Elvis fan and even impersonated Elvis in clubs and on cruise ships. Norm’s beautiful blue eyes held a special sparkle, and he was known for his charm, wit, and humor.
Norm enjoyed RV camping for over 30 years. For the last 3 years of his life, “Pops” resided with his son Kevin, DIL Keri, and grand dogs Sadie, Amos & Ericson. Norm brought so much joy to their lives, and it was a privilege for them to care for Pops as he passed. They all loved watching the Bucs & Rays together; he enjoyed sitting on the porch, reminiscing, and watching the birds. He was always up for a nice bonfire, and he loved looking at the stars. Norm enjoyed playing bumper pool and a good game of Tripoley with friends. Sometimes he would sit and write songs all day long and they would often stay up late, listening to music. Norm started Fireball Friday as the perfect way to wrap up the week; he enjoyed great meals & margaritas at Cody’s and Chula’s. He loved visiting friends & he regularly hosted Karaoke sessions at the Moose, VFW, and Eagles Club, and he enjoyed open mic night at local comedy shows.
In addition to his parents, Norm was preceded in death by his sisters Angie, Elizabeth, Hannah, Ermagian, Geneive, Savannah, Steller, and brother George.
Surviving immediate family includes the mother of 3 of his children, Betty; sons Marty (Christy) of Ormond Beach, Kevin (Keri) of Spring Hill & daughter Amanda of Brownsville, KY; daughter Julie (Sid) of Shady Grove, KY; Grandchildren include Jason, Caitlan (Billy), Brooke, Troy (Liz), Justin & Caitlin; Great Grandchildren Natalie, Reyna, Meryck, Katie, and numerous extended family members.
The family offers special thanks to Sandee & staff at Moffitt Cancer Center, Kim & Team at Centerwell Home Health, and the angels at Accentcare Hospice who cared for Norm. Deep gratitude to Cousin Gary for the special prayers, providing Norm with loving guidance on his journey to be with the Lord.
Honoring Norm’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life for Norm will be held on Saturday, April 25th from 12-4:00 at Kevin’s house, 1336 Altoona Avenue, Spring Hill, FL 34609. We welcome friends and family to join us in celebrating Norm; let us know if you can attend.
