Richard Grimaldi, 70, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, with his wife and children by his side. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend.
Born on March 8, 1955, in Staten Island, NY, Richard was the son of the late Charles and Rose (Devine) Grimaldi. He was predeceased by his sister MaryJo, her late husband Walter Mashlykin, his brothers Charles and Robert, and his late sister-in-law Barbara.
A graduate of New Dorp High School, Richard, went on to become a skilled carpenter, retiring after many years of dedicated work. He met Sarah, his love at first sight, in 1982, and they would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this October. Together, they raised three beautiful children and moved to Spring Hill, FL, in 2006, where they shared a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Richard’s love for his family was immeasurable, and he passed down many meaningful lessons that will last forever, including the advice, “remember all the fun we had.”
Known for his sharp-witted humor, joy for life, and generosity, Richard was the life of any gathering. He was always ready to lend a hand and could always be counted on to make those around him smile. A lover of music, Richard, enjoyed Motown, the Eagles, and the Bee Gees, and he wouldn’t sit down to dinner until he pressed play on his speaker. He also loved action movies (with Armageddon on constant repeat), manning the grill with an ice-cold beer, playing darts, watching golf, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sarah (Messina) Grimaldi, and their children Carla, Jessica, and Richard Grimaldi. He is also remembered fondly by his sons-in-law Anthony Devoll and Vincent Pellegrino, his brother William and wife Elizabeth, his sister Patricia and husband Michael Mazzeo, his sister Margaret and husband Luis Rodriguez, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who became family. His big smile and annual New Year’s calls at midnight will be dearly missed.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Lung Association.
