Ruthalys “Pidge” McCormick was born to Thomas Samuel Rollinson and Alys Toburn Rollinson on February 18, 1928, in Yonkers, N. Y. She was the youngest of four children; her siblings were all boys, and the family affectionately called her “our little pigeon”, shortened to Pidge as she was familiarly known.
Pidge was an excellent student, graduating as her brothers had from Gorton High School in Yonkers. She attended Westchester Community College and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Iona University. Pidge’s will to learn and succeed was strong, as she completed her studies taking night courses while working full time. Among the professional positions she attained were as Executive Secretary to the president of Xerox, and the same position to the president of W. R. Grace.
In 1970 she married the love of her life, John F. McCormick, known as Jack. Pidge and Jack celebrated their honeymoon in the Algarve, on the Portuguese coast, a place Pidge would fondly remember but never managed to return to. Their life travels took them from Bronxville, N.Y., on to Carmel and Newport Beach, CA for many years. They eventually returned to the East coast, living in Boca Raton, FL, before finally settling in Hudson, Fl.
Due to declining health, Pidge passed away on December 6, 2024. She was predeceased by her husband Jack, as well as her three brothers; Pidge was, by some years, the longest living of her family. Her stepchildren, nieces and nephews will remember Pidge as the dynamic, witty, strong, caring and loving person she was.
