Theodore Comer Obituary

THEODORE COMER, Jr.

 

Ted Comer, Jr., 96 years of age resided at Timber Pines, Spring Hill, Florida

passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2019 at HPH Hospice Care Center.

Ted was born in Ironton, Ohio to Theodore “Dode” Comer

and Iva Beula Markin Justice Comer. He is predeceased in life by his wife of 55 years,

Virginia Miranda Comer and his son, Theodore (Ted) Comer, III.

Dad had one sister Alma Regina Comer, and three step-sisters; Ethel Justice Bryant,

Elsie Justice Mault and Bertha (Birdie) Justice Straight Pratt.  .

 

After high school he joined the Marine Corp. He served his country in WWII.

He was with the Third Marine Air Wing VMSB 333, Marine Scout Bombing Squadron. 

Ted attained the rank of Staff/Sgt. Once a Marine, always a Marine.  

After WWII, he flew in an air circus and then delivered planes for Cessna. 

He lived and worked the first half of his life in Dayton, Ohio working for

Strategic Command Headquarters at Wright Patterson AFB and

lived his retirement years in at Timber Pines in Spring Hill, Florida. He and Gini

bought their home in Timber Pines in 1982 and

were the last original residents of the Timber Pines Community.

Ted was a Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Shrine. 

 

Ted is survived by his daughter, Connie Jene’ Comer Carlton

and her husband, Bruce C. Carlton of Savannah, Ga.

As well as a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Carlton Hudson and her husband,

Larry Hudson; and their 3 children Landen, Cora and Tessa of Beavercreek Ohio. 

Also a grandson, Christopher F. Carlton and his wife, Carissa Bross Carlton of Plainfield, Il

and their three children Hanna, Emmalyn and Cayden. 

He is also survived by his very best friend of many years, Jean Lopuch of Timber Pines.

 

Ted was a man who enjoyed golf, dancing, playing bridge and pinochle

with friends and traveling. He and his wife Virginia “Gini” Miranda Comer,

helped to start Stage West Community Theater.   They did a little of everything,

acting/singing, working back stage, building sets and making costumes.   

Even did some commercial modeling for formal wear.

 

The gathering of family and friends will be held at

Downing Funeral Home on Saturday, August 3, 2019

from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. 

Following the funeral service, a Celebration of Life will be

held at the Timber Pines Country Club at 2:00 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made in Ted’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association,

Florida Gulf Coast Chapter, 14010 Roosevelt Blvd., #709, Clearwater, Florida 33762;

in honor of Virginia Miranda Comer who had Alzheimer’s disease

or The American Cancer Society, 14540 Cortez Blvd # 203,

Brooksville, FL 34613 or any Wounded Warrior Project.
