Thomas A. Hebert

89 of Spring Hill, FL passed away at his residence on Friday, June 5, 2026.  Born in Gary, Indiana, Tom was the son of the late Harry and Mazie (Blake) Hebert.  He graduated from Wirt High School in Gary in 1956 and went on to earn three degrees from Ball State University.  He devoted his professional life to school psychology and special education administration, dedicating himself) to helping children and families achieve their fullest potential.  He also proudly served in the United States Army Reserve.

Tom will be remembered for his generosity, quick wit, and unwavering commitment to others.  He devoted countless hours to charitable and community service, serving on the ARC Board in support of individuals with special needs and as a Guardian Ad Litem advocating for children in need.  A lifelong supporter of Ball State athletics and a devoted Chicago Cubs fan.  Tom also found joy in his community.  For more than 30 years, he faithfully served as commissioner of the Tuesday Golf League at Oak Hills Golf Course, and Tom often mentored neighborhood youth – typically under the guise of “doing yard work.”

Above all, Tom cherished his family and the many friendships he cultivated throughout his life.  His kindness, humor, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.  Through his professional work, volunteer service and personal friendships, Tom made a difference in the lives of countless people, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, generosity and service.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Barbara (Cowen) Hebert; his sons, Bradley Hebert (Jo Ann) of Valparaiso, Indiana and Thomas A. Hebert Jr. of West Springs, Illinois; his granddaughter Elyse Wallington (John) of Valparaiso, Indiana; his grandsons, Cameron Hebert and Owen Hebert of Western Springs, Illinois; and many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerry Hebert, and sister, Patti Parker (John).

Interment at Florida National Cemetery will take place at a later date.
