Thomasine Simon

Thomasine E. Simon (Tommy), age 86, of Spring Hill, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Tommy spent many childhood summers at her family's shore house in the Villas, New Jersey where she enjoyed spending time at Cape May beach. The beach remained her happy place throughout her life, and those early days by the ocean helped shape her love of adventure, nature, family, and friendship.

After her early years in Philadelphia, Tommy lived in Hilltown and later Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where she and her husband raised their family. In 2002, she retired to Spring Hill, Florida, where she enjoyed the sunshine, afternoons by the pool, and many games of Mahjong with friends.

Tommy is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Samuel I. Simon. Together they shared a lifetime of travel, visiting places including Spain, China, Egypt, Australia, and Africa. They also enjoyed countless road trips throughout the United States, Canada, and Nova Scotia. Some of their favorite memories were made while volunteering during the summers at Yellowstone National Park, where Tommy loved spotting wildlife with Sam. They also cherished spending summers in Duluth, Minnesota, and later discovered a love of cruising together.

She leaves behind her four children: Cheryl T. Oehler (Paul), Sam G. Simon, Tracy S. Newcomer (Stan Quaintance), and Kristen S. McConnell (Steve).

She was a proud grandmother to Caitlin Oehler, Michael Oehler (Alyssa), Rachael Newcomer, Ricky Newcomer, Chaz Newcomer, Kevin McConnell, and Megan McConnell.

Tommy was preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor and Ed Thomas, and her brother, Ed Thomas Jr.

She is also survived by her sisters, Carole Dunn and Sue Jesberger, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Anyone who knew Tommy knew she was the best shopping partner, always encouraging those around her to "just buy it." She taught her children to be open-minded, accepting, and curious about the world. Whether traveling across the globe or exploring a new city, she believed the best experiences came from getting to know the local people. She also shared her love of New York City with her family.

Her home was always welcoming and full of life, not just with family and friends, but with animals of all kinds. Alongside the usual cats and dogs, there were raccoons, snakes, tadpoles, and plenty of other unexpected visitors over the years.

Tommy taught her family the importance of living within their means, saving for the things that matter, being a loyal friend, and recognizing loyalty in others. She had the perfect mix of Philly and Jersey spirit: spunky, strong-willed, and never afraid to speak her mind, yet always kind, gracious, and classy. She never sought attention for herself and was happiest cheering on the people she loved.

She showed her love through homemade meals, baked treats, and what her family would tell you was the world's best spaghetti. She taught her children and grandchildren the value of hard work, responsibility, and respect, lessons they still carry with them today.

Tommy's legacy is one of love, generosity, strength, and adventure. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
