Walfred "Jim" Liimatta
November 13, 1946 – April 13, 2026
Walfred (Jim) Liimatta, 79, was called home to our Heavenly Father on April 13, 2026.
Early Life and Service
Jim was born in Laurium, Michigan, on November 13, 1946, to the late Edward and Laina Anna Liimatta. A proud veteran, Jim served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. Shortly after his honorable discharge, he married the love of his life, Christine (Borawski) Liimatta, in Warren, Michigan, beginning a beautiful 58-year journey together.
Life and Passions
A man of hard work and community spirit, Jim was a proud business owner. When he wasn't working, he found peace and joy in the great outdoors of Michigan—whether he was hunting, fishing, golfing, or enjoying a competitive game of cards.
He was a familiar face in his community and a dedicated member of:
The American Legion (Luzerne, MI)
The Mio Moose Lodge
The Comins Eagles
Family
Jim’s greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Barbara (Kevin) Slattery, and his son, Brian Liimatta. He held a special place in his heart for his granddaughter, Andrea.
He is survived by his loving sister, Carol (Jeff) Smith, as well as many nieces and nephews near and far who will cherish his memory. Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Viola Hackmann, and his brothers, Warner, Art, Don, and Ken.
Legacy
Jim will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. The love he shared and the lessons he taught will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
