Walter Ellis Jr. Obituary

Walter Parker Ellis Jr.
 August 29, 1948 – June 30, 2025

Walter Parker Ellis Jr., 76, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025. Born on August 29, 1948, he spent most of his life in New Jersey before venturing to Myrtle Beach, where he enjoyed working at the state park. He later moved to Florida at the encouragement of his daughter.

Walter proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War — a chapter he kept quiet about, but one that shaped his life and character in countless ways. In his younger years, he found purpose volunteering with the local fire department — a service that reflected his heart for helping others. After the military, he worked for many years as a correctional officer in New Jersey and also spent time working in construction. He had a strong work ethic, was sharp-minded, and was never afraid to speak his truth.

Walter was the oldest of five siblings. He is survived by his sisters Ruthann, and Lorrie along with brothers Bill and Steve. To his siblings, he was known as “Vodie.” He is also survived by his children — Scott (Erin), Shaun, Greg (Kylie), and his daughter Samantha (Justin), who he often referred to as his “favorite daughter.”

Walter was proud to be a grandfather to five grandchildren: Aidan, Alyssa, Aubrey, Shaun, and Parker. Though life and distance limited time together with some of them, his love was no less real. In his final months, he shared many special moments with his youngest grandson, Parker — moments that brought him quiet joy and comfort. These bonds will always be cherished.

Walt had a soft spot for his favorite grand-dog, Khloe Rae, whom he affectionately called “Rae.” He adored her and lovingly cared for her. Their bond was undeniable and brought him deep comfort and constant companionship.

A military ceremony honoring Walter’s life will be held at the Eagles Club #4208 in Hudson, Florida, on August 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., with a celebration of life to follow.

Walter’s life was full of strength, complexity, and quiet pride. He will be remembered for his service, his stubborn Polish spirit, and the deep love he carried — even when it wasn’t always easy to show.

And in true Walter fashion, we’ll leave some conversations unfinished — with his favorite words echoing in our hearts: “Hold that thought.”
