Welcome Hewett Obituary

Welcome W. Hewett passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at his home in Brooksville, Florida.  He was born in Uxbridge, Massachusetts on August 3, 1938 to Walter A. Hewett Sr. and Florence G. Bourassa.  It is there where he grew up, met, and married the love of his life, Eveline M. Valliere for over 65 years.  At an early age, he worked at Malley’s horse farm in Uxbridge where he developed a love for horses.  He owned many throughout his life and passed this passion on to his children.

Welcome loved this country and was especially proud to bear the first name given to him by his parents in honor of one of his colonial ancestors.  At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served overseas at the Army Medical Hospital in Landsthul, Germany.  He quickly rose through the ranks, and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant, all before his 20th birthday.  He  grew into the kind of man who earned his keep and whose word was his bond.  He had a bold personality and was never afraid to look a person in the eyes and tell them what he thought.  He enjoyed people, regardless if you were a stranger, a neighbor, or close family member. His favorite means of communicating was teasing to render a smile.  He remained young at heart and pursued life with zest and vigor.  He was a Second Amendment advocate and lifelong member of the NRA.  He proudly supported the Florida Sheriff’s Association for over 30 years and was a member of the local chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Welcome worked in all aspects of the trucking industry which included driving as an owner-operator in long-haul trucking, dispatching, transportation management as well as shipping and receiving.  At the peak of his career, he served as the Vice President of East Coast Operations for Atlantic Marketing Carriers, a California-based shipping company.

He never stopped exploring the latest music, rock bands or action movies.  He stayed in lock step with and embraced technology as it advanced throughout his lifetime.  He built his own computers and a CB short wave radio base station.  He was always the first to have the latest gadgets and was one of the earliest gamers who loved to playing video games with his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his father Walter A. Hewett Sr., mother Florence G. Bourassa, brother Kenneth Hewett and sister Dorothy Racicot.  He is survived by his wife Eveline, sons Kenneth and wife Betty, Larry and wife Kathy, daughter Christine and husband Michael Collins, brother Walter Hewett, Jr. and sister Janice Wilkie.  He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

There will be a private family ceremony at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL on January 10th, 2025.  A celebration of life service will held in his honor, time, date and location to be determined.
